About Umbria
Umbria is the undiscovered Tuscany. A region of stunning scenery, ancient, art-filled hill towns and exceptional food and wine, it is the ideal destination for the traveller wanting to experience the Italy of postcards, without hordes of tourists. The region of Umbria is easily accessible from any of Italy’s major cities. Perugia, the home of Italy's famous 'Perugina' chocolate, is a popular destination, where cultural and gastronomic events take place, such as the umbria jazz festival in July and the chocolate festival in October.
Although in a rural location, the casale of San Bartolomeo is only 3km from Marsciano, a pretty village with many shops and excellent local restaurants.Marsciano is in the middle of Umbria and an ideal base for day trips to all of Umbria’s most beautiful and famous ancient ‘cities of art’. Todi, Perugia, Assisi and Bevagna are a thirty-minute drive away, while Spoleto and Orvieto are about forty-five minutes away. Marsciano is a pretty village with many shops and excellent local restaurants. Rome and Florence can be each reached in less than two hours.
During summer innumerable sagre (local celebrations) in the villages and towns around San Bartolomeo take place and are well worth seeing. Sagre often celebrate typical local foods, which mean it is possible to eat very well on these occasions at very low prices.
San Bartolomeo is also well-located for excursions by bicycle or on foot. Nature lovers will appreciate San Bartolomeo’s proximity to the nature reserve of Monte Peglia and the Meana forest, both ideal places for hiking or bike riding.
The countryside around our property has many castles and every little village has something to attract you, so maybe the best advice that can be given is just to wander around as much as you can…
